Journées du Patrimoine : Château d'Urtubie
Visits
The visit begins with the park with the herbalist's office and its garden of medicinal plants called Jardin des Simples in the Middle Ages, a very beautiful chapel with its frame in the shape of an overturned ship's hull built by marine carpenters from Ciboure! Head to the Orangery where there is an exhibition on the medicinal plants of the Basque Country and enjoy a moment of relaxation by playing old-fashioned wooden games for young and old. The guide will then take you on a tour of the ancient rampart walk to immerse you in the history of the castle, one of the last in the Basque Country to remain inhabited since the beginning of its construction in 1341. A guide will comment on the architectural evolution of the building, against a historical background. This year, exceptionally, you will have the chance to discover an extra room in the maze of the castle's interior!
